Changing the cover
Can I change the cover?
Yes. You change the front and back cover the same way as a page: tap or click “Edit this page!” on the cover and paint over what you want changed. The front cover is the first page of your book (“Front Cover”) and the back cover is the last (“Back Cover”). A cover takes a little longer to paint than a page.
Two things are different on a cover. There is no story text to change, and “Design this page myself” is not offered. To change the whole cover, open “Repaint the whole page” and choose “Location”, “Mood & style” or “Just try again”. A whole-cover repaint changes the whole look each time, so for a small change it is better to paint just that spot. The book title sits on top of the picture and is not part of the painting.
What the covers of a grandparent book show. The front shows the person the book is about at three stages of life: as they are now, as a young adult and as a child, using the stages your book has. The back shows them as they are now with their grandchildren. Their partner and their younger self are not on the back. In a book for someone who has died, the back shows the grandchildren with an open photo album and a framed photo of the person the book is about. Both covers are set in a place from their story.
What the covers of a How We Met book show. The front shows the two of you around the time you met. The back shows the two of you today, on the favourite holiday or trip you told us about. Nothing else is added by itself: a person or a pet joins the front cover only if you ticked “Put … on the front cover” for them in the form. The back cover stays the two of you.
An animal you did not ask for on a How We Met cover. Paint over it, choose “Remove this”, keep “An object” selected and write, for example, “the dog”. On an older book, “Just try again” can paint the animal back, so use the painted fix.
Your pet looks wrong on a How We Met cover. If you ticked it for the front cover, paint over it, choose “Characters”, open “Fix this person” and tap or click your pet. Then describe its coat, colour, markings and size in the box “Tell us more (in your own words)”. A pet that was not ticked cannot be added to a cover from this page.
Steps
- Go to the front or back cover and tap or click “Edit this page!” in the top right corner of the picture.
- Paint over the part you want to change.
- Choose what should happen: “Characters” for a person, “Fix this” for something that looks broken, “Remove this” to take something out, or “Change this” to make something look different. To change the whole cover, open “Repaint the whole page” instead.
- Answer the short question that appears, and add a few words if the window asks for them.
- Tap or click the wide button at the bottom of the window. It says “Fix the painted spots →” or “Repaint this page →”, depending on the change. The new cover appears by itself.
If a cover change looks wrong, go back to the earlier cover with the small arrows on the picture. Going back is free. Then paint just that spot again, or try another option from step 3: for a face, choose “Characters”. If you would like a completely different cover, try “Location” or “Mood & style” first. If you do not like the result, try again, or go back to the earlier cover with the arrows for free. A different set of people on the front cover, or a pet that was not ticked on a How We Met cover, is something only our team can change, so for that, write to us at hello@memolio.io and tell us which cover and who should be on it.
