How AI is used in your book
Is my book made with AI?
Yes, and we are open about it. AI writes a first draft of the story from your answers. It also paints every picture, using your photos and what you tell us. There is no human writer or illustrator: you are the one who checks every page and decides what stays.
You see every page online before anything is printed. You can change any word, and for the pictures you have up to 50 free regenerations. Nothing is printed until you approve your book.
The pictures are painted portraits, not photos. AI can get a detail wrong, such as a hand, an age or something in the background. That is why you can fix any picture you are not happy with.
We never use your photos or your stories to train AI. How your answers and photos are used to make your book is set out in section 3 of our privacy policy.
Not keen on putting family photos into AI? For a book about Grandma or Grandpa, the rule is simple. The whole family can be in the story: grandchildren, children, partner. With a photo we paint them true to life; without one, a few words will do. You only need a photo of the person the book is about. A How We Met book needs photos of you both.
We say that your book is made with AI in several places: at the bottom of our home page, in our FAQ, on your book page under the order button (“These illustrations are AI-generated from the photos and stories you shared.”), on the last page of the printed book and in section 10 of our privacy policy.
