The first portrait doesn't look right
The painted portrait doesn't look right. How do I fix it?
You can put it right here, before your book is made. This portrait is the face we use on every page of the book, so fixing it now is much easier than fixing pages later. Each portrait painted from a photo has two buttons for this. “Adjust this portrait” repaints it from a short note in your own words: it works best for hair, glasses, a beard, clothes, colouring or the smile. “Use a different photo” is better when the face itself is wrong, because the photo is usually the cause. If it looks like a cartoon, pick an earlier version if there is one, or adjust it with a note such as “realistic soft watercolour, not a cartoon”. Repainting does not cost money, but each person can only be repainted a few times. So a clear note or a better photo helps more than trying again without a change. On the pages themselves, each person's expression follows the scene. Please don't approve a portrait that doesn't look like them or that looks like a cartoon.
Steps
- Look closely and decide: is one detail wrong (hair, glasses, beard, clothes, colouring, smile), or the whole face?
- One detail: tap or click “Adjust this portrait”, write only what should change, for example “short grey hair, round glasses” or “smiling warmly, mouth closed”, and tap or click “Repaint”. In a How We Met book the button says “Repaint with this fix”.
- The whole face: tap or click “Use a different photo”. Choose a sharp photo where the face is easy to see and looks at the camera. Then drag the box around just this person and tap or click “Crop & use”.
- In the box that asks who this is, write where they are in the photo, for example “the man on the left”, and tap or click “Repaint with this photo”.
- The new portrait appears by itself after a few minutes. If an earlier version was better, tap or click it under “Pick your favourite”. Approve the portrait only when it looks like them.
If it still doesn't look like them, try the other button: “Use a different photo” if you adjusted it, or “Adjust this portrait” with a short note if you changed the photo. A sharp photo where the face is large and looks at the camera helps most. If an earlier version was better, tap or click it under “Pick your favourite”. When the card says you have used all the photo changes for this person, write to us at hello@memolio.io. Tell us who it is, what looks wrong and whether you have another photo.
